Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer.
We Emphasize that Watch groups are not vigilantes and should not assume the role of the police. Their duty is to ask neighbors to be alert, observant, and caring—and to report suspicious activity or crimes immediately to the police.
TAKING BACK YOUR BLOCK
The simplest things can make the biggest difference. Just turning on your porch lights at night helps remove areas where crime can take place. Criminals are like roaches, they scatter when the lights come on!
Gang Activity is almost everywhere nowadays. Here are signs to watch for and ways to combat it:
Focus on your kids. Their acquaintances could be associated with a gang, or be exhibiting gang behaviors as a means of acceptance. They may use honest kids to unwittingly help them in illicit or unscrupulous activities.
Know where your kids are and who they are with.
Spend time in family activities with them.
Do your homework on the Internet about gang activity, lifestyle and behavior.
Be suspicious of abnormal or avoidance behavior.
See a suspicious individual in the neighborhood?
Here are some options, depending on your comfort level:
Take Their Photo!
Stare them down.
Confront them about where they live or who they are visiting.
Call 911.
Let them see you writing down their license tag characters.
